PYS Volunteers

Pembroke Youth Soccer is in serious need of volunteers. We need help in all areas but particularly Field Maintenance, Snack Bar, and Fundraising.  Please contact the PYS President, Mike Cavalear (e-mail) or see him at the Snack Bar today.

PYS Elections
Become Part of Something Bigger than Yourself

Pembroke Youth Soccer is holding their annual General Meeting on Wednesday, November 9th, at the Pembroke Library beginning at 7:00PM. The General Meeting is open to any member of the PYS family who wants to get involved. Pembroke Youth Soccer is proud of its program and of the field complex it maintains at Hobomock Elementary. A program of our size, with over 1000 children ranging in age from 6 to 19, does not run by itself though. Many volunteers are needed to ensure that the program runs efficiently. Board members frequently step down as their children get older and reach the end of their playing time with PYS. We need YOU to step up and get involved!  Whether you join a committee, become a boardmember, or just offer assistance, your help is appreciated and necessary for our continued success. As a parent or guardian of a PYS player, your vote elects our board so please participate in the election process. Please contact the PYS President, Mike Cavalear (e-mail), if you have any questions.

FREE Monday Night Skills Clinic by PTUSA

PYS has arranged for free clinics to be held every Monday during the fall season starting on 9/12 and concluding on 10/24. Coaching will be provided by PTUSA.  Players are required to wear shinguards under soccer socks and should bring a ball and drink. The clinics will be held at the Hobomock Fields on Field #4. The clinic is free to all registered players.

Schedule - Mondays
   U7/U8 - 4:30pm - 5:30pm
   U10/U12 - 5:30pm - 6:30pm

The clinic will take place on Columbus Day, October 10th, as scheduled.

Attention Prospective Referees

PYS would like to inform prospective referees who are considering getting certified over the winter that PYS currently has a surplus of officials. As a result, we are not able to assign referees games every week and the earnings potential is limited. Any newly certified referees will still be welcomed and added to our rotation. This information is being passed along so prospective referees can manage their expectations.

Speed and Agility Training

Speed and agility are game changers.

Mark the calendar for Saturday, October 1st at 1:30 pm on Field #3.  POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

In partnership with Pembroke Youth Soccer, Athletic Revolution is running a 1/2 hour Soccer Speed and Agility Clinic.

• How to get to the ball first
• Agility
• Quickness
• Blazing Speed
• Reduce knee and ankles injuries

Admission is FREE for this world class training so make sure you are on Field #3 at 1:30pm.

All ages welcome!

Family Movie Night - POSTPONED

Due to EEE concerns, Family Movie Night is postponed to a later date.

Practices and EEE

As most of you know by now, EEE has been found in surrounding towns. Pembroke High School has instructed its coaches to shut down all activities by 5:15pm. This was a high school mandate and that time reflects the shutting down of night games and a realistic end time for HS practices. The Pembroke Health Department’s warning (click to see notice) reflects, as it always has, the importance of shutting down activities by dusk. For this time of year, it will be 6:30ish using the eyeball test but that will obviously get earlier as the days get shorter. PYS has advised its coaches to follow the Pembroke Board of Health's recommendation.

Player Equipment and Safety
No earrings allowed!

Pembroke Youth Soccer wants to clarify that all players are required to wear shin guards. Additionally, players are not permitted to wear anything dangerous including metal hair clips or any jewelry including earrings. Covering earrings with tape is not considered adequate protection. The only exception is when jewelry is worn for medical reasons (e.g. medical alert necklace) in which case it must be taped to the players body. These directives are part of the rules of soccer and Pembroke Youth Soccer and its referees do not have the authority to make exceptions.

Fire Lane / Crosswalk ParkingPYSFieldssm.jpg

Please be aware that there is absolutely no parking in fire lanes or crosswalks at the soccer fields. Fire lanes include the right hand side of the driveway coming into the fields and along the fence of field three. These lanes must be left open for emergency vehicles. This has been communicated through group emails and should have been passed on from coaches. The PYS board takes this offense very seriously and has asked the Pembroke Police Department to monitor and help with the situation. This is a safety issue for all our members. PYS expanded the parking area with paved and marked lanes three years ago. No Parking Fire Lane signs are being installed, and it is the PYS boards hope that no members be ticketed or towed. There is additional parking behind Hobomock School and across Learning Lane at the High School. The walk from these parking areas is no longer than walking across the fields.

IMPORTANT: New CORI Procedure

There are new CORI procedures being rolled out by Mass Youth Soccer affecting all of our program's adult supporting members (board members, coaches, assistant coaches, referees, and anyone else 18 or older coming into contact with the children in our program).  All of these individuals must follow the new procedure by the start of the season or they will not be allowed to coach or referee until the process is followed.  The Adult Membership Form must be filled out and presented in person at one of two meetings with a photo ID (Drivers License, Passport).  We'll be collecting this info at the U10 - U14 draft, date to be announced, and the Sept 6th coaches meeting for U6 - U14 coaches 6:30pm - 9pm at the Pembroke Center Library . The form and ID must be presented by the person listed on the form, no exceptions. The form must contain no nicknames. Coaches will receive a lime green tee shirt to be worn on game days at the field after they present their photo ID and Adult Membership Form.  If any of you have questions or concerns please forward to me. See link at Mass Youth Soccer site for more information on the process (http://www.mayouthsoccer.org/programs/cori.aspx).

Sideline Behavior Reminder

As we get ready for the spring season, PYS would like to remind everyone about proper sideline behavior. Every year, about a third of the nations 141,000 soccer referees drop out. This is attributed largely to the verbal abuse dished out from the sidelines by parents and coaches. Unfortunately, Pembroke is not immune to this. For those of you who need a reminder, the following are examples of phrases that ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE:

"Call it both ways ref"
"That ball is out"
"Offside"
"Handball"
"That's a corner kick, right ref"

Please focus your energy on cheering for the efforts of the teams and players and not on the officials.

Also, only players and coaches are permitted in the team areas.  Parents and other spectators should watch the game from outside the team area.

Brick Fundraiser Paves the Way for Field Improvements

Paving the way to the future is PYS's newest fundraiser to help pay for future field improvements. We've all enjoyed playing on what are considered the best fields on the south shore and now your donation will forever be viewed by way of pave stones. Pave stones paid for by Pembroke families will be used to make a patio in front of the snack bar at the Pembroke Soccer Fields. For just $70.00 you can have two lines engraved or for just $5.00 more add a third line. Once the first 25 orders are filled, the engraving begins and installation shortly after that. Be one of the first group of engravings and grab a Pave Stone now to be sure your engraving is part of the patio. Print out the Brick Order Form, complete it and either mail it to PYS P.O. Box 323 Pembroke, MA 02359 or drop it off at the snack bar.

Recycling Program Continues Soccer Fields

Pembroke Youth Soccer is proud to support Chris Campbell from local Boy Scout Troop 43 who has implemented the PYS recycling program as part of his Eagle Leadership project. Please support the program by placing appropriate materials in the recycling barrels. The program is supported by volunteers (see Volunteer Schedule).

Thank You Sponsors

PYS would like to thank all of our sponsors for making this season successful. The generosity of local individuals and businesses help PYS run a successful program all year round. Visit our sponsor page for a complete list of sponsors and more information on how you can help.
