Recycling Effort Needs Your Help

Pembroke Youth Soccer is proud to support Chris Campbell from local Boy Scout Troop 43 who is working on an Eagle Leadership project that will introduce recycling to the PYS complex. The project will entail setting up recycling barrels with domed covers, the construction of frames for the barrels, and setting up a system to empty and transport the recyclables over to the Pembroke Recycling Center (click to see detailed info). To complete the project, Chris will need to raise about $900. If you are interested in donating to this effort, donations or checks made payable to "Troop 43" can be sent to the address below:

Pembroke Youth Soccer will be holding registration for the Fall 2009/Spring 2010 season on the following dates:

May 6th, Wednesday, 7pm - 9pm at the Pembroke Town Hall
May 17th, Sunday, 7pm - 9pm at the Pembroke Town Hall

Late Registration: July 14th, Tuesday, 7pm - 9pm at the Pembroke Town Hall ($25 Late Fee for each registration)

Your single registration covers BOTH Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 seasons and also covers the players uniform.

The late fee goes into effect on all paper registrations received after May 17th, 2009.  The late fee will go into effect on internet registrations after May 23rd, 2009 . The late fee does not apply when registering a player for spring only. The late fee is waived if you recently moved to town (contact registrar).

Proof of age (e.g. birth certificate) will be required for new PYS players. This will be strictly enforced. To enter the program, players must be starting Kindergarten in the Fall of 2009.

Online Registration is still available for some age groups.

Player Equipment and Safety

Pembroke Youth Soccer wants to clarify that all players are required to wear shinguards. Additionally, players are not permitted to wear anything dangerous including metal hair clips or any jewelry including earrings. Covering earrings with tape is not considered adequate protection. The only exception is when jewelry is worn for medical reasons (e.g. medical alert necklace) in which case it must be taped to the players body. These directives are part of the rules of soccer and Pembroke Youth Soccer and its referees do not have the authority to make exceptions. PYS will be taking steps to improve our communication of this information in the future so parents and players can better plan their ear piercing.

Safety Information and Field DiagramPYSFieldsF2009sm.jpg

Please park in designated areas only and obey parking restrictions. All roads around the fields must be kept accessible to emergency vehicles.

Also, only players and coaches are permitted in the team areas.  Parents and other spectators should watch the game from outside the team area.

Sideline Behavior

Every year, about a third of the nations 141,000 soccer referees drop out. This is attributed largely to the verbal abuse dished out from the sidelines by parents and coaches. Unfortunately, Pembroke is not immune to this. For those of you who need a reminder, the following are examples of phrases that ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE:

"Call it both ways ref"
"That ball is out"
"Offside"
"Handball"
"That's a corner kick, right ref"

Please focus your energy on cheering for the efforts of the teams and players and not on the officials.

Brick Fundraiser Paves the Way for Field Improvements

Paving the way to the future is PYS's newest fundraiser to help pay for future field improvements. We've all enjoyed playing on what are considered the best fields on the south shore and now your donation will forever be viewed by way of pave stones. Pave stones paid for by Pembroke families will be used to make a patio in front of the snack bar at the Pembroke Soccer Fields. For just $70.00 you can have two lines engraved or for just $5.00 more add a third line. Once the first 25 orders are filled, the engraving begins and installation shortly after that. Be one of the first group of engravings and grab a Pave Stone now to be sure your engraving is part of the patio. Print out the Brick Order Form, complete it and either mail it to PYS P.O. Box 323 Pembroke, MA 02359 or drop it off at the snack bar.

Attitudes Are Contagious Video Available Online

The video "Attitudes Are Contagious", produced by Mass Youth Soccer, is now available on their website. This video focuses on the issue of sideline behavior of adults and has received national praise. Featuring actual game footage shot during league games and at tournaments, the video shows adults being themselves – their comments, actions and antics along the sidelines. You will hear referees talk about how the sideline behavior of adults affect them, and the impact the comments can have on matches. More importantly you will hear from the players themselves – what they think of the comments from the sidelines. This video has been shown many time on local cable television and is now available to you on your home computer. Click on one of the links below to view the video from the Mass Youth Soccer website.
